It seems a little late for New Year’s wishes and holiday greetings. Took a bit of a hiatus there for awhile. Let’s skip all the reflections and best and worst of lists and just jump right back in where we left off. You all know what’s happening in the world and you don’t need me to tell you. Lots of big changes for everyone. Some good, some bad. Some happy, some sad. For those of you who have been sitting on the couch with watery eyes eagerly anticipating the return of your favorite blog, I’m here to let you know, “I can really shake em’ down.”
This actually occurred just over a week ago and it was aired the day after on BBC 4. (Just kidding, there’s no such thing as BBC 4, but it was one of the British broadcast channels.) It was filmed live at London’s Liverpool Street Station during rush hour. It’s hard to believe it’s a commercial.
I watched it a few times to pick out which of the commuters were part of the routine and who was just inspired to joined in. I love the guy around 1:40 who winks at one of the dancers and then starts dancing with her. The best is the elderly woman with the white bag at 1:55. I love that they did this. It’s so great! Is it ok to have a favorite commercial? Because I choose this one.
In the heated political climate of election day everyone is rallying to support their candidate and get “The Vote” out, and then ”Rock” it. I found this video purley by accident and thought “what would be more appropriate on election day.” I don’t usually like to post two videos in a row but this one just seem so very, very appropriate… on election day.
It seems it is much easier to keep up when there is not much else to do but I guess that is true of most things. I hope everyone is doing well. I am on the move again. Just enough time to update The Live Performance Of The Week, albeit four days late. For those who haven’t noticed there is a new page and every Monday there is a new video of someone or something performing live. It could be music or stand up comedy, or a dance recital… who knows. So far only music though. I think it is kind of fun, and so much quicker than writing a whole post.
I have notice an unintentional theme of the picks for October. They are all white woman playing guitar with a man backing them up on rythm guitar. Just an observation that I made at this very moment.
This weeks pick is from a long running live music show that I used to watch religiously when I lived in England. Later with Jools Holland. He was the bassist for the band The Squeeze, but he has made a name for himself, at least in England, for having a great show with a great format for new and upcoming, and also legendary, artist.
I like it because he gives the artist the choice to play what they like and not so much what the record companies want them too, or what they happen to be selling at the moment. (Although some choice the latter) You will also see a lot of duets and pairing of musicians that you would not normally see here in the states. Jools is kind of a quirky fella but he keeps it real and I think that is why we all love him. He sort of reminds me of an English version of Rodney on the ROQ in L.A. You can check out some of Jools’s older shows. They have released some on DVD. If your interested.
Not sure what is going to happen with the Live Performance Of The Week, for next week, but I know that it will be exciting! And LIVE!
If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant’s life, she will choose to save the infant’s life without even considering if there are men on base. ~Dave Barry
